The Agriculture Business Today

How the world has changed in the past 100 years. If you sit down and think for a minute, it is almost impossible to fathom the change that we have seen and created as humans. The agriculture business is no different. What was once a large group of individuals workig alone, but collectively, to feed our country (and many people in other countries). Today, the landscape is completely different and if we are not careful, we may find that our entire food supply is in the hands of fewer people than we can count on two hands.

Corn and Soybeans

It seems that our apathy and, in a way selfishness, has allowed our food stock to be controlled by only a few entities on the buying and selling side. It seems that most of us are just along for the ride at this point. This is more apparent in the corn and soybean farming world than just about anywhere else. Large producers and suppliers of stock have managed to take advantage of the laws that exist today to control how much of the food in this country is produced today. People should really learn how the food they eat is grown...and food (no matter what kind we are talking about) is "grown" today.

Agriculture in the Future

If I had to guess, I bet we are on the verge of a revolution in the food business. As young people (and old) place more importance on the source of their food, we will see a resurgence of interest in agricultural programs at some of our great universities and schools. Hopefully, this next generation of "AG" types will not only ebrace technology, but also the importance of raising wholesome and natural foods.
